Behind the Curtain

I deleted everything that was on this page and just started writing. I thought it was time for a clearing up of things. And in 30 minutes, sitting on a stone table on the campus of the University of Florida, underneath a spanish moss tree, as students whizzed by me on the way to class, I came up with this. It’s not a perfect description of this blog, but I hope you have get semblance of what I’m trying to get at. Please do subscribe if you like what I write. It’s probably the easiest thing you can do that supports my writing (the harder thing to do is give me money) — Thanks for reading.

This page will always be a work in progress. I’ve learned the things we’re deeply passionate about are ever-changing in scope and voracity. Our interests, as a people and as individuals, constantly change.

I think of this blog, this space, as my creative expanse. In fact, I thought about changing the name of this blog recently to ‘Creative Expanse.’ I like the name and I think it suits this space better. What do my readers think?

Input in the form of comments are always welcome and really do a great deal to motivate me to write — to keep writing in the hopes of possibly creating a meaningful discussion, solution to a common problem, and, hopefully, bouts of laughter. And the support that my readers show me goes a long way.

After all, the best thing you can offer a writer is conversation.

At the start of this blog, I thought I’d just write and figure out what it was all about later. Well, it’s later now, and I’ve written on everything from The Creative Power of Napping to How to Deal with Excessive PDA. I know. I’ve covered many truly important issues of humanity on True [Phresh] (like stealing Doritos from your roommates)and the time has finally come to find some sort of glue; some binding truth that sums it all up.

After letting these blog posts marinate for a year, I’ve realized it all comes down to creativity.

I want this blog to be about creativity, and how the workings of the world rise from nothing (well, at least nothing concrete by touch). I love writing about my passions: entrepreneurship, writing, critical thinking, reading, and lifestyle design.

The linkage between all of the things I love doing is my deep-seated attraction towards creating meaningful things out of thoughts. Entrepreneurship takes ideas and puts them to work through a business that solves problems. Writing sculpts and fashions words to weave a story that illicit meaningful emotions (laughter, inspiration, empathy). All of these things eventually translate into worldly actions, that hopefully, make the world a more sustainable and optimistic place to live in.

Much of the time, I do this through comedy: snarky commentary, satire, and witticisms (you may give me less credit than that and call it self-deprecating).

Ahh how I love charming feedback.

Aside from comedy, inspiration has always come up as a vehicle for change on my blog. Inspiring creativity is the arc reactor (as Iron Man would put it) of this blog.

While I love to muse about life and, at times, it’s clumsy nature, I want this blog to be able to spark ideas about living a better and more full life. And I hope I’ve lived up to that so far.

Sometimes, I venture out of my main focus, but I think those musings and rants are a testament to the sprawling, wandering nature of humans. I like to think we are all brought up to be creatures of habit in mundane things: brushing your teeth, working at the office, going to sleep. My purpose on this blog is to challenge the very pillars upon which these ordinary things of life have become too rigid to the point where all creativity is frozen.

I want to challenge you to be spontaneous. To be radical in the way that you think. To be ordinary from time to time, but experiment with potentially productive lifestyle changes. And finally, to laugh. Laugh ’till you wake.

If you’re lazy or enjoy my writing, type your email in the box below, and you’ll be able to read my posts in your inbox. Huzzah, productivity!
